X TV: Elon Musk set to launch YouTube-like app
Elon Musk Ventures into Television App Territory: A Challenger to YouTube?
According to a report by FirstPost, Tesla CEO Elon Musk is gearing up to launch a television app, akin to YouTube, for Amazon and Samsung smart TVs. Musk teased the upcoming app with a tweet captioned “Coming Soon.”
Fortune, citing an insider from Musk’s venture, revealed that the app’s interface would closely resemble Google’s YouTube television application. The source also hinted at Musk’s intention to challenge YouTube’s dominance in the streaming sphere.
The move comes as no surprise, given YouTube’s status as the most-watched streaming platform in 2023, as per industry statistics.
In a bid to expand the app’s functionality, Musk rolled out an early version last October, allowing select users to test video and audio calling features. This move aims to transform the app into a comprehensive “super app” offering messaging and online payment services.
According to reports cited by Reuters, Musk envisions his platform as a “video-first” space and has been actively seeking partnerships with prominent media figures like former Fox commentator Tucker Carlson and ex-CNN anchor Don Lemon.
Since acquiring X in 2022, Musk has grappled with user retention and engagement. In a bid to address these challenges, he recently introduced a new feature called “Articles,” enabling users to share diverse content formats such as GIFs, videos, and links.
As Musk continues to innovate and expand his app’s capabilities, the tech world eagerly awaits the launch of his television platform, poised to shake up the streaming landscape.
